Stainless Steel hub recall
on (SOME) TLG-500 systems
It is very clear that since the
release of the TLG-500 system that we have somehow sent out 117 hubs that
are incorrect in thickness.
The correct hubs are 7 gauge in thickness (right at 3/16" thick). The
incorrect hubs are 10 gauge in thickness and too thin for the intended load.
I have no idea who would have an incorrect hub since they went out by
mistake along the way, so I am going to have to ask everyone to check their
hub on their TLG-500 to be sure you have the correct hub.
I do not care how old your unit
is, this is a recall for all 117 incorrect hubs that are out there
flying and has nothing to do
with your warranty period.
To date I have had two reports
of hub failure which was more than enough for me to be looking for the
reason.
By failure I mean the hub arms themselves can bend back in higher winds and
make your unit look real funky. Depending on your setup tower strike with the blade tips may
also be possible.
There is no danger to you or your unit as a result of this mishap (even if
they hit the tower, our stuff doesn't break), but it
could be annoying to anyone that may have this problem as you will have to
change out the hub or add one more hub to the one you already have (double).
If it looks like your blades are bowing backward towards the tower you may
be one of of my lucky customers that received the wrong hub in your box.
There are two ways we can handle
this:
One, you can send in your hub and I will send you out the correct hub for
your unit.
Two, you can ask for a second hub like the incorrect one and you will get
one matching hub and a longer set of blade mounting bolts which would in the
end result in an even stronger hub than the original 7 gauge hub.
(This option will only be possible if I have some of the incorrect hubs back
in.)
In order to tell if you have the
correct hub with your unit you will need to measure the thickness of one of
the stainless steel hub arms..
If you have the correct hub it will measure just shy of 3/16 of an inch...
If it is not just shy of 3/16 of an inch (and I do mean just shy) call me or
email me right away so that we can get you what you need.
I do apologize for this mistake! When I spent
all the time I did developing
the TLG-500 I had the best of intentions for making a system that you
would not have to mess with for many years.
I never thought I would be putting out a recall on one of my wind
generators and this really stinks to say the very least!!!!!
I want everyone to be happy with
their TLG-500 systems so I need
to make sure you have exactly what I intended for you to have.
I hope this mishap will not
make anyone feel poorly towards TLG.
This is sad, and down
right embarrassing to me and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may
cause anyone.
